“The National Theatre through the NT Studio is delighted to be supporting the research and development phase of this innovative and imaginative site-specific work because of our belief in the talent of director Cressida Brown and writer Steve Waters. This is a project with the potential for both huge theatrical appeal and a fascinating connection with a great public event.”

AMPHIBIANS by Steve Waters, based on an original idea and research by Cressida Brown, ran from 4th-28th January 2011 at the Bridewell Theatre in the heart of London.

Deep and disused under the Bridewell Theatre stage lies a forgotten Victorian swimming pool, the perfect and poignant landscape to stage Steve Waters' innovative psychological drama about the lives and fates of three former Olympic swimmers. AMPHIBIANS is part of Offstage Theatre's ambitious Olympic Swimmer Project which is entirely inspired by the extensive, eloquent and emotionally revealing filmed interviews Artistic Director Cressida Brown has conducted with former and current Olympians.
